Greenfield Community College will host international author and Mideast peace activist Jeff Halper on March 7, in an event sponsored by Traprock Center for Peace and Justice, as well as other co-sponsors.

Halper will be discussing his new book, “War Against the People: Israel, the Palestinians and Global Pacification,” and the Israel-Palestine conflict. The discussion begins at 12:30 p.m., at GCC’s Downtown Center at 270 Main St., Greenfield, and is free to the public.

Activist folk singer Ben Grosscup will also be performing.

American-born, Halper relocated to Israel in 1973. In Israel he participated in Israeli politics and activism, as well as promoted nonviolent solutions to the longstanding conflict. He also helped to create the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, which, according to its website, “is a nonviolent, direct-action group originally established to oppose and resist Israeli demolition of Palestinian houses in the Occupied Territory.”

Halper has since written several books on the topic of the conflict, and has continued to protest the violence against Palestinians.

Traprock promotes nonviolence, peaceful resolutions and environmental conservatism. Recent events hosted by the group include ones promoting social justice, renewable energy and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Additional sponsors are American Friends Service Committee, ARISE, Ashfield Congregational Church, UCC, Kairos/Franklin County Justice for Palestine, Western Mass. Jewish Voice for Peace, UMass departments of anthropology, history, social thought and political economy and American Studies, the Office of Civic Engagement and Service Learning and Students for Justice in Palestine.
