GREENFIELD – Social media has been abuzz the past few days with comments and concerns about the School Committee chair and vice chair communicating through email, alleging that they have violated Massachusetts Open Meeting Law, among other things.
Someone, identifying themselves only as “anonymous,” posted that they filed a public records request that produced “hundreds” of emails between Greenfield School Committee members.
The Greenfield Recorder submitted a public records request of its own on March 20 and according to state law, the school district has 10 business days to provide the documents – all emails between School Committee members from Jan. 1, 2020 through March 21, 2021. The newspaper should have those documents by April 2 and plans to follow the story as it develops.
School Committee Chair Amy Proietti told the reporter on Monday afternoon that she appreciates the newspaper’s and people’s interest in the matter.
“These emails were part of a larger legal agreement between the School Committee and the former superintendent (Jordana Harper), and this will be my only comment,” Proietti said. “The School Committee remains focused on moving forward with the work at hand of preparing our schools for reopening in a few weeks.”
