Field Maloney defeated Jacob Miner, 7-5, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the Wooden-Racket Tennis Tournament Monday night at Beacon Field in Greenfield.
Brian Campbell also advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Paul Beaulieu. Brian Lamore defeated Peter Berry, 6-1, 6-0, and Patrick Roche topped Rick Miner, 7-5, 6-2.
Campbell will face Maloney in tonight’s semifinal match at 5:30 at Beacon Field. Lamore will face Roche.
Mark K Memorial
Don Roy, George Platek, Al Blanchard Sr. and Don Shebell shot a 56 to win low gross during the Mark K. Memorial Mixed League at Oak Ridge Golf Club in Gill on Monday.
Rod Duda, Guy Newman, James Fowler and Sue O’Neil also shot a 56 and finished second.
CC of G Ladies
Tilly Clark shot a 41 to win low gross in the A Division during the Monday Night Ladies League at the Country Club of Greenfield.
The league held a “Loud Tournament” in which golfers dressed in loud, obnoxious colors, attired in objects such as cowbells. The tournament featured low gross and low net.
Jane Smith won low net in the A Division with a 32.
Dianne Wood won low gross in the B Division with a 45, and Jean Laczynski won low net with a 32. Debbie Luippold won low gross in the C Division with a 50, and Nancy Conant won low net with a 35.
Montague Youth program
The Montague Parks & Recreation Department is taking registrations for its Youth Soccer Programs. Coaches are also needed for all levels.
• Start Smart Squirts — Open to children in grades K-2 and held Saturday mornings from 10 to 11 from Sept. 10 until Oct. 22. Cost is $30 for Montague residents, and $35 for non-residents.
• Junior Travel Team — Open to children in grades 3 and 4 and held Saturday mornings as part of the Tri-County Youth Soccer League. Cost is $45 for Montague residents, and $50 for non-residents. Practices begin in early September.
• Senior Travel Team — Open to children in grades 5 and 6 and held Saturday mornings as part of the Tri-County Youth Soccer League. Cost is $50 for Montague residents, and $55 for non-residents. Practices begin in early September.

Newt Fall Ball registrations
The Newt Guilbault Community League will hold registrations for fall baseball this week at the Campbell Field concession stand at Sheffield School in Turners Falls.
The league is open to Franklin County players ages 7 through 12. Games begin the first weekend of September. Registrations will take place today and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.

J.S. Rae tryouts
The J.S. Rae varsity fall ball squad will hold tryouts and practices today and Thursday at 5:45 p.m. on the junior varsity field at Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Buckland.
Any Franklin County high school students (entering grades 9 through 12) interested in playing are welcome to attend. The team plays in the Western Massachusetts Fall Baseball League, which runs from Labor Day weekend through the last weekend in October. All games are played on weekends.

Montague Mug Race
The 36th annual Montague Mug Race will be held on Aug. 20 in Montague Center.
The 5.5-mile race begins at 8:30 a.m. from the Village Common. Pewter Mugs are awarded to top male and female finishers, and coffee mugs are given to the top finishers of each division. T-shirts will be available for the first 90 runners.
Now in its 12th year, the 2-mile Mini Mug Race will kick off at 8:35 a.m.
Both races finish at the ball field. All runners are entered into drawing for local prizes.
