Greenfield Seniors win
Dylan Apanell tossed a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 10 batters and overcoming eight walks to lift Greenfield past Easthampton, 3-1, in a Western Mass. Summer Baseball League Senior Division contest Sunday night.
“He had to pitch himself out of a few jams because of the walks but he was able to get the strikeouts when he needed them,” Greenfield coach Kyle Phelps said of Apanell.
Easthampton starter Dallas Eliot struck out eight and held Greenfield hitless, but control cost him in the second inning when he walked four batters. An Easthampton error also proved costly, and Greenfield scored all three of its runs in the second. Gabe Gochinski, Owen Phelps and Jacob Quinn scored in the win.
“We are still waiting for our bats to come alive,” Kyle Phelps said. “They have been real quiet this season. We feel our pitching and defense are tops in the league. If our bats wake up we will be even tougher to beat.”
