My recent issue of The Hightower Lowdown newsletter bemoans loss of local papers as they have become fast-buck profit centers for vulture investors with no local news.
At the Recorder we get reporters covering school boards, town and city boards and council meetings, serving as a community’s eyes and ears. I have always appreciated the local weekly columnists like Leuchtman, Danielson and Weisblat as well as “My Turn” submissions. Let’s appreciate what we have. The newspaper is vital to civic engagement.
