The third week end of August marked the 60th edition of Montague Old Home days and the 39th running of the Mug Race. The day started off cloudy, a little mist in the air, but the sun broke through mid-day. The cannon sounded and the days’ events were off. Runners, musicians, quilters, crafters and even our feather friends, thanks to Tom Ricardi enjoyed the day.

The race was overseen by the members of the Montague Center Fire Department, every year they ensure a safe course for all participants. Sponsors of the race included: CRI, Montague Mill, Rau’s Towing, Renaissance Builders, Judd Wire, Moretti Landscaping, Gfld Savings Bank, Turn Lawn Care, Farley Builders, Turn It Up, About Face Computers and McCarthy Funeral Home. Their generous support is greatly appreciated.

Special thanks to the Montague Highway department for equipment and race course prep. Randy Crochier very graciously gave up a Saturday to be with us. The Montague Police Department handled parade traffic and kept the traffic slowed throughout the day. The Greenfield Recorder certainly provided some great photos of both the race and activities on the Common.

The parade lineup was an added plus as many entries showed up to join in the festivities. Those watching certainly were treated, “Everyone loves a parade.”

Over the years Old Home Days rely on community support. We thank every business and attendee.
