‘Choose wisely when voting in this election’

Not again … Residents of Northfield, I would like to share a few details on the candidates running for Selectman this May. Jack Spanbauer has been a selectman in our town for many terms. But did you know that he resigned in October 2010 — 18 months before his term was over? This happened just after approving changes to the town personnel policy. This caused the town to hold a special election to fill his seat for the remainder of his term at a significant cost to the tax payers.

He then returned to the ballot in May 2012. Being elected, he worked with the new agreement for a strong town administrator to help with the town’s day-to-day operations. Move to May 2018 and he does not seek reelection “because he could not work with the town administrator” whom he and the rest of the Selectboard hired. Because of this inability to work with a new hire we taxpayers got to pay again to buy out a three-year contract. Another substantial cost to our town.

Now one year later he is seeking a seat on the board again? How much will this term cost us?

Heath Cummings is a certified conflict resolution instructor who is looking forward to facing our problems head on and not running out on us. Heath has attended multiple manager and supervisor trainings. He was a director of 15 employees for 10 years. He has been working for local municipalities since 2000 including most recently as school resource officer for PVRS. Currently he is the facilities and energy manager for the Gill-Montague school district.

Please choose wisely when voting in this election. Lets choose someone who will face the problems in our town and not run away from them.
