Big offensive numbers on both sides enabled Camelot Carpet Cleaners and Pipione’s Sport Shop to play to a 13-13 tie in a Greenfield Girls’ Softball League Ponytail Division game Sunday at Murphy Park.

Camelot’s Gen Jackson picked up two hits, and Lauren Wade, Nene Santiago, KK Santiago, Amaya Santiago, and Lydia Wood all chipped in with one. Olivia Stafford tossed two scoreless innings of relief, striking out six of the seven batters she faced.

Anna Bucala had a double and an RBI for Pipione’s. Teammate Margarette Howland had a hit and an RBI while also striking out four in the pitching circle. Alysia Knapp had three RBI and Kailey James-Putnam added a pair.

• Lydia Seaman went 4-for-5 at the dish, while teammate Savannah Aldrich was a perfect 4-for-4 to power Freedom Credit Union over Lundgren Honda, 15-7, in a Nippers Division contest Saturday.

Kali Lewis went 2-for-4 in the win while Lundgren’s Auburn Mass and Abby Hood posted monster afternoons with six hits apiece.

Frontier Suburban tryouts

The Frontier Suburban softball team will hold tryouts this weekend at Merritt Field in Sunderland.

The 12U team will hold tryouts on Friday at 6 p.m., while the 14U team will go on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Youth baseball

Newt Guilbault

Tyler Podolski and Joey Mosca combined to strike out 12 batters as Booska’s Flooring knocked off St. Kazimierz Society, 7-2, in a Newt Guilbault Community League youth baseball game on Saturday.

Podolski also went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Adam Maynard added a double and two RBI.

St. Kaz’s Noah Ausikaitis drilled a home run for his team. Levin Prondecki and Jackson Cogswell combined to strike out six on the mound.

• Elsewhere, Hugh Cyhowski allowed just one hit in four innings of action, striking out nine as the Montague Elks captured a 16-1 win over Turners Falls Athletic Club.

Cyhowski also hit a triple and two doubles to go with three RBI for the Elks. Gavin Rubio’s huge day saw the slugger hit a home run, two doubles and a triple for six RBI. Also contributing at the plate in the win were Austin Sumner (triple, single, RBI), Derek Helms (two hits), Joaquin Rubio (two hits), Caleb Thomas (three hits) and Cordelia Guerin (hit).

Alex Sulda broke up the no-hitter for Turners Falls Athletic Club, as he registered a double for his team.

Frontier Cal Ripken

Shane Prusak’s two hits included a home run, as Yankee Candle edged Maniatty Real Estate, 7-5, in a Frontier Cal Ripken youth baseball contest Saturday at Herlihy Park in Whately.

Maxwell Edwards earned the win on the mound, while Jon Edwards had two hits and an RBI. Liam Skribiski-Banack, Alex Gochinski and Sean Kirkendall smacked two singles each.

Maniatty’s Jake Petrin and Jason Quinn belted home runs for their team.

FC Babe Ruth

Connor Waitkus tossed three perfect innings, striking out six to help Hubie’s Tavern to a convincing 21-3 five-inning win over Turners Falls Athletic Club in a rematch of last year’s championship game in Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League action on Saturday.

Kyle Devlin went 4-for-4 with three RBI for Hubie’s while Austin Wrisley went 4-for-5 with five RBI. Dillon Polan (3-for-5, four RBI), Camden Baird (3-for-5, RBI), James Robison (2-for-2, RBI), Brody Baird (2-for-4, two RBI) and Rauri Maloney (1-for-1, RBI) all contributed for Hubie’s at the plate.

Trevor Lapinski pitched three innings with five strikeouts in the loss for TFAC. Brian Murphy went 1-for-2 with an RBI, Dalton Henderson added a hit and an RBI while Nate Sciandra pitched two innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Running

Free clinic at IAS

The Fast Practice will hold a free speed/acceleration/quickness clinic at Indoor Action Sports on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The co-ed clinic is intended for athletes from sixth through 12th grade, and they can register now at thefastpractice.com.

In support of Indoor Action Sports’ GoFundMe campaign, The Fast Practice will be accepting donations at check-in for those willing to contribute to their cause.

The quartet of Josh Harker, Matt Pitoniak, Sue Plante and Denis Depault combined to fire a 136 to capture the top spot in Saturday’s Member ABCD at the Country Club of Greenfield.

David McDonald, Doug Muehlberg, Forbes Byron and Wes Talley posted a total of 141, tying the quartet for second with Anthony Wonseski, Gordon Parker, Ernie Patnode and Donna Woodcock.

Preps

Deerfield Academy

It was Family Weekend at Deerfield Academy and the Big Green picked up some notable victories.

The boys’ rowing team took first place in a race against Middlesex & Nobles, with Boats 1 through 5 all capturing the top spots. The girls’ rowing team beat Middlesex & Nobles in a race held at the Northampton Rowing Club, with Boat 1 finishing first and Boat 2 taking second.

The varsity softball team edged Phillips Academy Andover, 6-4, while the baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the same team, 14-1 and 5-0.

It was a 9-6 win for the boys’ lacrosse team over Avon Old Farms, while girls’ varsity tennis beat Choate Rosemary Hall, 6-3, and the girls’ water polo team fell to Hopkins, 10-5.

In track & field action, the Green were second on the boys’ side (59 points) and third in the girls’ event (40 points) in a race held at Northfield Mount Hermon.

NMH

Phillips Exeter Academy captured the top spot at the Prep School Founding Four Tournament on Saturday. The Lions took a 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 win over NMH in the finals held in Wallingford, Conn.

In the semifinals, the Hoggers picked up a 25-12, 26-24, 25-12 win over Choate Rosemary Hall.

• Elsewhere, the girls’ tennis team at NMH took care of business in a 7-0 win over Cushing Academy.

Colleges

UMass women’s lax

An 8-1 Navy run out of the gates was too much of a hole for the UMass women’s lacrosse team to overcome on Sunday.

The Minutewomen saw their season come to a close with a 23-11 loss in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Philadelphia.

The loss came two days after a 13-7 win over No. 10 Colorado in the opening round. The season marked the second straight year and the fourth time in the last five years that UMass reached the NCAA second round. The Minutewomen also tied their program record along the way with 16 consecutive wins.

Field hockey

Element Athletics clinic

The Stanford University coaching staff of Tara and Steve Danielson will guide Element Athletics’ Next Level Clinic on June 4 at the Deerfield Academy turf field. The clinic, intended for ages 12-18, will run from 9-11 a.m. and it costs $40.

Tara (Jelley) Danielson, the head coach at Stanford, is a Greenfield native and former three-sport standout at Greenfield High School. She graduated from UMass in 1994 and was a member of the USA Field Hockey National Team from 1998-2005.

At Stanford, Danielson has guided the Cardinal to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. She was the winningest first-year head coach in program history, going 15-6 back in 2010. She is married to Steve Danielson, assistant coach at Stanford and a member of the 1996 USA Olympic Field Hockey team.

Basketball

Bay State Games tryouts

Tryouts for girls interested in playing in the 2017 Bay State Games are slated for three upcoming dates in western Mass. The West team will make its team based on tryouts held May 26 (6-7:30) at Hampshire Regional High School in Westhampton, June 19 (6-7:30) at Smith Vocational High School in Northampton, and June 25 (9-10:30 a.m.) at McCann Technical School in North Adams.

All female athletes in the ninth through 12th grades are invited to attend. That includes 2017 graduates, as three will be allowed on each team. An athlete must be either a full-time resident of Massachusetts or a full-time student at a recognized academic institution. Athletes must participate in at least one tryout to be considered for the team.

Entry fee is $28, with a finalist fee of $60. Athletes can register online at www.baystategames.org/basketball. The competition is slated for July 14-16 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Crossing. All teams are scheduled to play a minimum of five games.
