GREENFIELD — Police shut down Main Street Thursday evening after a car reportedly hit a pedestrian near the intersection with Chapman Street.

Around 8 p.m., two ambulances and a few police cars idled outside Taylor’s Tavern in the middle of Main Street.

Emergency medical workers could be seen loading someone who was sitting up on a stretcher into the back of one of the ambulances.

A black car had stopped a few yards away and its bumper appeared to have minor damage. Police officers were nearby interviewing the driver.

The town’s Police and Fire departments, which were called to help out, said they couldn’t comment about what happened.

The road was reopened about an hour later.
