BERNARDSTON — A traffic stop on Route 10 in Bernardston at around 2:45 a.m. Friday morning led to the arrest of three people on drug trafficking charges.
According to a Massachusetts State Police press release, Trooper Jesse Gadarowski of the Shelburne Falls barracks stopped a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Brandon Katon, 23, of Winooski, Vt., for unspecified motor vehicle violations.
A subsequent investigation with assistance from Trooper Anthony Lavigne led to the discovery of approximately 1,000 bags of a substance believed to be heroin and 60 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine in the vehicle, the release states.
Katon, along with his two passengers, Amber Palumbo, 29, also of Winooski, Vt., and Nigin Gunter, 24, of Hartford, Conn., were placed under arrest for trafficking in heroin and cocaine. Katon was also charged with speeding and a marked lanes violation.
According to the release, Gunter, Palumbo and Katon were held on $100,000, $75,000, and $50,000 bail, respectively. They were transported to Greenfield District Court Friday morning to be arraigned.
