BERNARDSTON – The Powers Institute Museum will be open Sunday, Sept. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. with three attendants on site.

Two albums have been compiled due to new photo acquisitions. One contains photos of the old Hoe Shop before and after its collapse in 1964. The other contains 8-by10-inch photos of Bernardston-related articles such as people, places, events, departments and fires, which were donated by the Greenfield Recorder.

“Enlighten yourself by becoming acquainted with the community in which you live and visit,” encouraged Bernarsdton Historical Society Chair Lou Atherton.

Warwick Old Home Days Corregatta Race

The Seventh Moores Pond Corregatta, a cardboard boat race, closed out the events of Warwick’s Annual Old Home Days Sunday, Aug. 29. Moore’s Pond Beach Committee member Claire Michaels said entries were few this year, with three in the youth division and two in the adult division, “but the crowd of two hundred, spread over the Town Beach, cottages across the pond, and boats, cheered on the contestants.”

According to Michaels, co-pilots Hailey Ring and Ethan Fisher in the President’s Kitchen came in first in the youth division; Emile Marti paddled Jasper to second place; and third place went to Benjamin Walker in the Eager Beaver.

The adult race was also won by the President’s Kitchen, under the trusty paddles of Jason Ring and daughter Hailey. Second place went to Dan Farley in the Eager Beaver, “which capsized immediately, but was paddled in its sunken state over the 100-yard course to the finish line, to the delight and laughter of the audience.” The Eager Beaver won the Sinker Award for the most entertaining shipwreck, and President’s Kitchen won for Fan Favorite.
