DEERFIELD — A driver rolled his truck into an inlet off of the Deerfield River on Stillwater Road around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, and will face drunken driving and indecent exposure charges, Deerfield police said.
Deerfield Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. said the driver, a 72-year-old Vermont man, was attempting to leave a boat launch near Stillwater Bridge when his vehicle rolled off the bank.
The driver was rescued from the vehicle and had minor injuries, but refused transportation to the hospital, Paciorek said.
He said the driver was intoxicated and unclothed, since he’d removed his shorts after swimming and tried to drive away, resulting in the charges.
At 2 p.m. tow crews were working to extract the vehicle from the water.
Deerfield and South Deerfield fire departments, South County EMS, Deerfield police and Massachusetts state police responded.
