Info sessions to detail Montague Housing Production Plan

MONTAGUE — The town is updating its Housing Production Plan and is seeking input through community meetings in the five villages.

According to an event notice from the town, the plan represents a “proactive strategy” to address current and future housing needs. Montague’s Housing Production Plan was last completed in 2015 and has expired.

The updated document will consider existing efforts to plan and develop new housing, as well as population demographics and projections. It will assess what types of housing residents may need and how well the existing housing stock meets those needs. For example, the plan will examine incomes to determine whether enough housing is affordable to low- and moderate-income households. It will also consider residents’ current and projected ages to assess whether there is enough appropriately sized and accessible housing for young families and older adults.

Montague, in consultation with the Franklin Regional Council of Governments, will host five meetings from 5 to 6:30 p.m. starting on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Turners Falls at The Brick House Community Resource Center, 22 Third St. The remaining dates and locations include meetings in Montague City on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 20 Masonic Ave.; Millers Falls on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Millers Falls Public Library, 23 Bridge St.; Montague Center on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Montague Center Public Library, 17 Center St.; and Lake Pleasant on Thursday, Dec. 17, at The National Spiritual Alliance, 2 Montague Ave.

For those who are unable to attend an in-person community session, a survey is available at tinyurl.com/7579wjkp. To learn more about the Housing Production Plan update or to view the 2015 plan, visit montague-ma.gov/p/1643.
