SOUTH DEERFIELD — In its last home game before the postseason, the Frontier Regional field hockey team defeated Minnechaug, 4-0, in a Suburban league matchup on Monday afternoon.
Frontier (13-0-1, 9-0-1 Suburban) moves closer to a postseason with plenty of potential for greatness. The Redhawks rank fifth in the latest MIAA power rankings in Division 4. Frontier has an away game at No. 2 Dennis-Yarmouth on Saturday.
Execution in the circle will be a focal point for improvement in the playoffs when the competition ramps up and a singular goal can decide a game.
“Executing on those opportunities,” Frontier coach Missy Mahar said. “We had many opportunities today that we need to execute and finish. Especially in big games, when those are the game-winners.”
Frontier had 21 shots and 12 penalty corners against the Falcons.
“The focus moving forward, which it has been, is how do we execute that,” Mahar said. “What, as a team do we need to do differently? As a forward line what do we need to do differently? That connection has to happen sooner rather than later heading into the postseason.”
Addie Harrington scored a pair of first half goals, both assisted by Haly Doucette-Kaplan. The team is ready for the postseason. Frontier hasn’t lost since last season with three games remaining before the Western Mass. tournament.
“We are definitely playing our field hockey,” Harrington said. “Working as a team, together. We play really well when everyone is moving as a unit. We are communicating. Everyone knows where everyone is on the field.”
Doucette-Kaplan finished with three assists for the Redhawks. Brynna Fahey and Bella Orrell had goals in the second half. Elsa Brown assisted on Orrell’s goal to make the score 4-0 in the fourth quarter.
Brooke Charest did not have to make a save to record the shutout for Frontier.
