In regards to Question 9, can anybody explain how punishing lawful and legal firearm owners is going to make the state any safer? These new laws are such a mess that even the ones who drafted them can’t follow them. It’s the same lie over and over about common sense laws keep us safer. Add in the words “for the children” and you have a scare tactic to play on emotions. Obviously, we all want the kids safe and these laws do not do a single thing to protect them. Explain how a family member going to jail for just the mere possession of grandpa’s old shotgun all because it was produced so long ago that there are no serial numbers on it. Anyone voting yes for the passage of this bill obviously hasn’t even tried to see what is written and who it affects. How can this be anything resembling common sense when even the police chiefs union was against it. If the state was really interested in the safety of the public, they would strip violent criminals’ rights and give them a meaningful punishment instead of letting them plead out on lesser charges only to be released to commit more crimes. That would be common sense over jailing a lawful citizen for something that isn’t his fault to begin with. Don’t forget, this is the same administration that is refusing a full financial audit that 72 percent of the state’s voters wanted. Please vote common sense, vote “no” on 9. It only targets the law-abiding and not the violent criminals.
