Political candidates spend millions on non-stop, frequent, repetitive TV ads praising themselves and berating their opponents. Most ads preach the candidate’s profound concern for every voter and promise to make things better. On and on they go! How many folks believe what they say? How many voters are annoyed with hearing the same banter over and over?

Wouldn’t it be much more persuasive if candidates actually did something helpful prior to the election? What if they were to spend a chunk of their campaign funds helping people deal with the high costs for food, gas, clothing, medicine, etc.   A million dollars of campaign funds could buy and distribute 40,000, $25 prepaid gift cards for everyday essentials; or sponsor mobile dental, medical, and veterinary clinics; or resolve any number of other unfunded needs in the local communities, which candidates should be well aware of.

Although these one-time, “small” dollar actions won’t solve the major long-term problems facing many voters, they do demonstrate a candidate’s willingness and reliability to take actions that really help. Someone voters could trust.
