Bank collecting donations to support veterans
SHELBURNE FALLS — Greenfield Cooperative Bank invites the community to its Shelburne Falls branch to contribute to a household essentials collection drive supporting veterans through Project New Hope Inc.
The drive is offered in partnership with the Northeast Chapter of American Daughters of Conservation and the Massachusetts Bowhunters Association. Requested items include toiletries, personal care items, canned pet food and pet supplies.
Project New Hope Inc. aims to empower veterans, service members and their families through retreats, resources and holistic support services. For more than 16 years, the organization has fostered healing and purpose beyond military service.
“At the heart of every strong community is a willingness to look out for one another,” Jess Thompson, assistant vice president of community outreach and business development officer, said in a statement. “My background in the nonprofit world has shown me how meaningful even a small act of generosity can be. We’re grateful to everyone who helps us support Project New Hope and the local veterans they serve.”
Through Nov. 9, the bank will be collecting donations during regular business hours in the lobby of the Shelburne Falls branch at 33 Bridge St.
Freedom Credit Union holding Rays of Hope fundraiser
SPRINGFIELD — Freedom Credit Union is dedicating its October Month of Giving to Rays of Hope, a western Massachusetts organization that has raised more than $17.2 million to support breast cancer care, research and education.
Throughout October, Freedom Credit Union members and community members can make donations to Rays of Hope at any branch. Freedom Credit Union has branches across western Massachusetts, including in Greenfield and Turners Falls.
The effort coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and gives the community an opportunity to support programs that help patients, survivors and families affected by breast cancer.
“Rays of Hope has made an extraordinary impact in western Massachusetts for more than 30 years, and we are proud to support its mission through our October Month of Giving,” Glenn Welch, president of Freedom Credit Union, said in a statement. “Keeping these resources local means our communities directly benefit from the generosity of our neighbors.”
Since its inception in 1994, Rays of Hope has supported individuals with breast cancer journeys. Funds support research at the Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research, state-of-the-art equipment, breast health programs, outreach and education, patient and survivor support, and grants for complementary therapies and cancer programs through community partners.
