The cartoon on the editorial page in the Sept. 30 edition of the Greenfield Recorder depicts an “underaged” Democrat donkey complaining to the wise old Republican elephant bartender that requiring ID is an “attack on our democracy.”

The foolish part of this cartoon is the comparison between requiring ID to purchase alcohol and requiring ID to vote.

The misleading part is the implication that Democrats — or anyone else for that matter — are asking to be able to vote without proving that one is eligible to vote. This is done by the states — every state — as required by their voting laws.

Also, most of the national noise about voter fraud is just noise at best; there has been no proof offered that widespread voter fraud exists in this country, with the possible exception of tampering by foreign powers bent on undermining our election process.

I appreciate the Recorder’s attempts to be even-handed by giving equal time to opposing viewpoints, but seriously, is that the best you’ve got?
