Monday, Aug. 17
8:58 a.m. — Report of people riding dirt bikes on Turnpike Road in the area of Judd Wire, disturbing the peace. White dirt bike, man with a helmet. Officer advising he passed the area and observed nothing.
9:11 p.m. — Report of a group of youths harassing the reporting party as he was going on his nightly run. Reporting party states the kids started to shout profanities at him and made him uncomfortable. He believes some of them reside in the same building as him on West Main Street. He attempted to make contact with one of the adults at the apartment and had no luck. Officer spoke to the reporting party about his concerns and advised him to call when this occurs again.
Tuesday, Aug. 18
12:51 p.m. — Reporting party states there is a male party with no shoes on talking to small children at the playground on Montague Avenue in Lake Pleasant. He told them he was homeless and was asking the kids a lot of questions. Investigated.
11:05 p.m. — Officers attempting to serve a warrant on Avenue A. Edward L. Ryan, 66, of Fifth Avenue in Turners Falls, was arrested on a warrant.
Wednesday, Aug. 19
8:22 a.m. — Alarm company reports a silent panic alarm was activated from inside Cumberland Farms on Montague City Road. Accidental trip by an employee. False alarm.
12:38 p.m. — Reporting party states a female resident of East Chestnut Hill Road has been purposely putting debris in the road near her home to force vehicles to slow down. The woman has also placed her own “speed limit” signs in the area and has been parking a vehicle out near the bridge by her house, preventing motorists from moving over to allow others over the bridge at the same time. Referred to an officer.
6:59 p.m. — Report of numerous hypodermic needles under a bench at Spinner Park on Avenue A. Reporting party advised the involved bench is the one closest to Fifth Street. Officers located and disposed of 13 needles that were under the bench. Officers will be checking the area for additional needles.
7:41 p.m. — Caller from Fifth Street reports hearing a child screaming “bloody murder.” Reporting party states she is concerned for the child’s welfare. Officer advises they spoke to a female party who stated their child was having issues going to bed. No further problems.
Thursday, Aug. 20
12:17 p.m. — Several reports of wires down near the General Pierce Bridge on Montague City Road. Greenfield Police Department was advised to shut down traffic on the Greenfield side of the bridge. Comcast is responsible for the involved wires. Comcast contacted.
4:00 p.m. — Caller reporting an active breaking and entering on First Avenue. Received a phone call from a neighbor saying a female party was entering the property. Reporting party is currently blocking the doorway so she is unable to leave. Involved female party called 911 stating she is being threatened by a male party and no one ever believes her. Janette M. Culver, 56, of Griswold Street in Turners Falls, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering for a misdemeanor, trespassing and resisting arrest.
Friday, Aug. 21
1:13 a.m. — Reporting party from Third Street states her neighbor is shouting and slamming things in the apartment below her and she is scared, would like an officer to respond. Officers checked the area, but the lights were off and they didn’t hear anything, just a loud television from the third floor.
8:33 a.m. — Reporting party would like the police to check on a tent that has been sitting in a wooded area on their property on Turnpike Road for a few months. Tent located, but no owner around. Reporting party was advised the Police Department will check back later to see if anyone is there.
10:08 a.m. — Reporting party from East Main Street states that overnight between Aug. 18 and Aug. 19, someone pushed in both of the air conditioners from the windows of his apartment and they were damaged when they hit the floor. Observed the window unit air conditioner in said apartment functioning. Unit does not appear to be properly secure in the window. Property management advised the window unit was in a different window a few days ago as if the resident is moving it around. Any damage appears to be cosmetic.
Saturday, Aug. 22
8:58 a.m. — Report of a cow on the side of Federal Street. Not in the roadway. Not a hazard at this time. Officer advised.
3:19 p.m. — Report of a fire in the park on Seventh Avenue in Lake Pleasant, heavy smoke and flames. No other details obtained. Small fire is contained within a grill. Male was grilling food.
Sunday, Aug. 23
1:31 a.m. — Reporting party states there are people in the area taking pictures of his girlfriend while she is closing up Millers Pub on East Main Street. Reporting party states even while on the phone there was a female party taking pictures of him. Reporting party was advised people are allowed to video in public areas.
10:32 a.m. — Caller states he was at church this morning and has a service animal, which was approved by the pastor. Reporting party states that when he was leaving, someone tried petting his service animal. He asked them not to and was told, “I’ll pet the animal whenever I want. If I see you again, I won’t be nice.” Called reporting party back and got no answer, left a lengthy message concerning the complaint. Complaint was logged.
