The Recorder missed an opportunity to publish any news article about the recent D2R2, Franklin Land Trust’s fundraising bike ride which took place at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield on Aug. 22.
This year was its 21st year of showcasing Franklin County’s farms, forests and working landscapes. Over 1,600 bike riders from 27 states and four countries came to the Franklin County Fairgrounds for Saturday’s “Ride for the Land.” Every year these riders come to our beautiful area to sample the countryside, enjoy our farms and orchards, ride our back roads, spend their money on accommodations and eat at local restaurants. When they leave, they become ambassadors to the rest of the country, extolling the beauty of the area. This results in new riders coming every year to participate.
The D2R2 is one of the oldest gravel biking events in the country and remains a premier bucket list event in modern gravel cycling history. It is an iconic ride in the biking community and Franklin County should be proud of this and highlight it.
I hope that next year the Recorder will cover this important yearly event which shows the best of Franklin County.
