Are you being represented?

I was just listening to a woman talk about sewage sludge, an issue that had once occurred in her town. She talked about first detecting the odor and then she went on to learn how harmful it was. Then she proceeded to talk about other towns having a similar problem and how these other place were told no, there are not any problems with that. No, it’s not toxic, etc. And what this woman said to Joe Donahue (on WAMC) was that people needed to understand all about sewage sludge so they would be protected. And that word “protected” really struck me in the moment.

Who should be protecting these people, these towns? It should ultimately be our government, learning about the issue, its toxicity and finally, working to make sure that people are protected. Then I thought about some other forms of protection that we deserve through government. Government should be protecting our health, our military, our children, our food supply, our right to our own lives, our environments, our citizens, our economy, and our women.

What doesn’t make sense to me is that we are fighting our own government! We vote (some) people into government who should be fighting for our rights, not for the rights and benefits of (some of) the legislators! Everybody is looking for certain protections to live the very best life they possibly can have. We should have a government that we feel is fighting for us. It doesn’t take a lot to listen and translate the words of those who are seeking to represent us. It takes listening and then voting for the people who you truly believe are going to work for you, your family, your welfare, your living.

Are you being represented by people who are really looking out for you?
