Moose Lodge holding bingo fundraiser

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Moose Lodge at 20 School St. will host its first Lobster Bingo on Friday, Aug. 28, as a fundraiser to help cover the lodge’s air conditioning and heating expenses.

Games will start at around 6:30 or 7 p.m. after Friday’s Polish dinner. The cost is $15 to play the first five games, and an additional $10 to play the final two games.

Winners of each of the first five rounds will receive cash, while winners of the final two rounds will receive a gift card to Foster’s Supermarket, which can be used to buy two 2.5-pound lobsters or their choice of food.

Tickets for a 50/50 raffle and Lottery tree will be sold as well.

Pre-applications for CPA funding due Sept. 16

GREENFIELD — The Community Preservation Committee is seeking proposals for projects requesting Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding for fiscal year 2027.

One-page pre-applications, which are required for determining project eligibility, are now available at greenfield-ma.gov/cpcfunding and are due by Wednesday, Sept. 16. Applicants whose projects are deemed eligible for funding will be invited to submit a complete application by Nov. 16.

CPA funds are generated through Greenfield’s participation in a state program that allows a surcharge on property taxes. That amount is then supplemented each year by state funding. The city has received more than $220,000 in matching funds from its first four distributions.

“Each year, the committee endeavors to spend the limited funding we receive in ways that will be aligned with the goals of the community and the allowable uses as defined by the Community Preservation Act statute,” Community Preservation Committee Chair Donna DuSell said in a statement. “We hope to engage the citizens in this process to ensure that we support projects that most benefit our community.”

After a review of applications with public input, the committee will vote to recommend funding for projects in spring 2027. A City Council vote is required to appropriate CPA funds for the selected projects.

Fiscal year 2026 projects, approved by City Council in June, are just getting started. These include the preservation of historic documents and artwork, new housing units and support for low-income renters, and recreation opportunities at Millers Meadow and Beacon Field. The list of Greenfield CPA projects from all funding rounds can be found at greenfield-ma.gov/cpcfunding.

Pour painting class slated for Sept. 21

GREENFIELD — Attendees can learn the art of pour painting at the Greenfield Senior Center on Monday, Sept. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Pour painting is an abstract art technique where thinned acrylic paint is poured onto a surface to create unique, flowing patterns. It’s popular with all skill levels because it offers spontaneous and unpredictable, yet beautiful results.
