Karaoke and open mic night slated for Friday
TURNERS FALLS — The RECOVER Project of Greenfield will host a free, all-ages open mic and karaoke night at Peskeompskut Park, located at Avenue A and Seventh Street, on Friday, Aug. 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Participants can share poems; tell stories; perform music, dance, comedy or magic; or showcase any other talent. All forms of performance art are welcome.
There will be pizza, chips, snacks and soda available. The event will also have addiction recovery and community resource information on hand.
The event is part of a broader community initiative led by The RECOVER Project in partnership with the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) and the communities of the Cooperative Public Health Service.
Patch Burger coming to St. Kazimierz Society
TURNERS FALLS — Patch Burger will make an appearance at St. Kazimierz Society, 97 Avenue A, on Saturday, Aug. 22, for a food and music event from 5 p.m. until midnight.
Patch Burger will start serving food at 5 p.m., followed by music from DJ Gusto from 8 p.m. to midnight. The event is open to the public, regardless of St. Kazimierz Society membership.
Educational walk coming to Discovery Center
TURNERS FALLS — Join the Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A, for a 1.25-mile history hike through downtown Turners Falls and alongside the Canalside Rail Trail to learn about the largest log drive in the United States taking place on the Connecticut River, and to learn about George Van Dyke, one of New England’s wealthiest timber barons.
The walk will start at 10 a.m. and go until 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. Attendees are advised to meet at the main entrance. The walk is scheduled to be held rain or shine, and is intended for adults and children ages 9 and older.
