As voters in the 1st Franklin District prepare for the primary election on Sept. 1, I am watching closely with one issue front and center: the future of our public schools. Considering the need for Chapter 70 reform, unsustainable inflation impacting operational costs, declining enrollments, and unfunded mandates, our school districts need an advocate on Beacon Hill who has already spent years working directly on these issues. Corinne Coryat is that person.

Our small rural and regional school districts face unique funding hurdles that we have watched the state funding formula overlook for decades. From fully funding Chapter 70 and rural school aid, to covering regional transportation and special education, closing these gaps demands legislative know-how.

Having worked directly on legislative policy and constituent advocacy in the State House, Corinne has firsthand experience navigating the state budget and the committee process. She understands how we work to achieve equity for public education in western Massachusetts. She understands it is unacceptable for our cities and towns to continually be forced to choose between essential municipal services and adequately funded classrooms. She knows the specific pressures facing our teachers, administrators, and school committees across Franklin and Hampshire counties.

We need a representative who won’t face a steep learning curve when fighting for our students. Corinne Coryat has the depth of knowledge, policy experience, and commitment to ensure our students and educators receive the state resources they deserve.

I urge my neighbors across the 1st Franklin District to join me in voting for Corinne Coryat.
