Aug. 14: Movie night at Wilder Homestead
BUCKLAND — Join the Buckland Historical Society for a screening and discussion on Rawn Fulton’s 1973 documentary “Root Hog or Die” on Friday, Aug. 14.
The event will take place at the Wilder Homestead, 129 Ashfield Road, at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance and donate $5 to $10 at the door.
The film follows farmers across western Massachusetts and southern Vermont as they reflect on farming patterns, family memories, and changes in farming technology and culture. Fulton will be on site to show a recently enhanced version of the hour-long film and answer questions following the film screening.

Maintenance, painting planned at Ashfield Town Hall
ASHFIELD — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is conducting work at Town Hall in the coming weeks.
According to a post on the town of Ashfield’s Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office will be painting Town Hall. While the building will generally remain open during its normal office hours, parking may be limited and it will be busier than usual.
Office hours may be slightly different during the week of Aug. 17, when insulation work will take place. The work can create a significant amount of dust and be disruptive for town employees, who may find it better to work from home.

Shelburne moving along with auctioning off properties
SHELBURNE — After signing a contract with Sullivan & Sullivan Auctioneers to hold an auction for properties that were taken for back taxes, the company will visit Shelburne next week to visit the six properties in question and assess their value.
At Monday’s Selectboard meeting, member Rick LaPierre mentioned that the company informed him that an October auction would be most fruitful.
