Performances of ‘Junie B. Jones the Musical Jr.’ start Friday

TURNERS FALLS — A weekend of performances of “Junie B. Jones the Musical Jr.” start on Friday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. at JaDuke Theater, 110 Industrial Blvd., followed by a Saturday, Aug. 15 performance at 6 p.m. and a Sunday, Aug. 16 matinee at 2 p.m.

The musical features 40 JaDuke Center for the Performing Arts students, and is based on the book series by author Barbara Parks. Junie B. Jones will be played by Grace Dias.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at tinyurl.com/2mzs7m78 and will also be available at the door.

Aug. 15: Car show at Sundaes at Lena’s

GILL — Sundaes at Lena’s, the new ice cream shop at 231 West Gill Road, will host a car show on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ice cream and hot dogs will be for sale. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date is set for Saturday, Aug. 22.

Mud ball presentation coming to Discovery Center

TURNERS FALLS — Greenfield Community College professor emeritus and local geologist Richard Little will discuss Jurassic armored mud balls at the Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A, on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Little will discuss the geological makeup of the region before a short walking program to observe the local geology. The free event is open to all ages.

Public comment opening on power aggregation program

MONTAGUE — Following the vote at May’s Annual Town Meeting to allow the town to start looking at an electricity aggregation program, a 30-day public comment period on the draft aggregation plan will open on Monday, Aug. 17, and continue through Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Assistant Town Administrator Chris Nolan-Zeller said the program is designed to give residents “more choices and provide long-term stability for electric rates by allowing the town to purchase electricity in bulk and keep rates more predictable for residents.”

Nolan-Zeller said this is a common option for municipalities across the state, and part of adopting the program is to have a public comment period on the draft aggregation plans.

To participate in the public comment period, residents can go online to the Montague Power Choice website at masspowerchoice.com/Montague. An information session is also scheduled for the Monday, Aug. 31 Selectboard meeting.
