Friends of Dickinson Memorial Library selling quilt raffle tickets, holding Bingo Night fundraiser

NORTHFIELD — Community members can buy raffle tickets for a chance to win a 53-inch-by-61-inch quilt on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at Dickinson Memorial Library, or at Bingo Night at The Brewery at Four Star Farms on Friday, Aug. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Tickets for the raffle, organized by the Friends of Dickinson Memorial Library, can be purchased with cash, check or Venmo. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10, and the quilt is on display at the library.

Tickets are being sold only during the arranged time slots by members of the Friends group; library staff will not accept money for raffle tickets.

The winning ticket will be drawn at Bingo Night. With questions, email eschek@att.net.

Meanwhile, the Aug. 14 Bingo Night organized by the Friends will help raise money to improve the Children’s Room at the library with new audio-visual equipment.

Bingo cards and daubers will be available in exchange for donations starting at 5:30 p.m. and bingo calling will start at 6:15 p.m. For a suggested donation of $15, players will get a bingo booklet containing 10 games, with each page featuring four cards that can be played for each game and a dauber. Winners can choose from an assortment of prize baskets.

This is a family-friendly event. Attendees are invited to bring their own food, visit the food truck or grab something from the bake sale. The Brewery at Four Star Farms will also donate $1 for every beer poured to support the fundraiser.

Selectboard makes appointments

NORTHFIELD — The Selectboard voted last week to appoint four members to several of town boards and committees.

The board appointed Cheryl Momaney to the Conservation Commission with a term ending June 2029, Mark Geoffroy to the Open Space Committee through June 2029, Kristin Kellom Damon to the Cultural Commission through June 2029 and Brian Sodders to the Energy Committee with a term ending December 2028.

Aug. 20: Bank rep to speak on scams, fraud prevention

NORTHFIELD — Join a representative of the Greenfield Cooperative Bank at the Northfield Senior Center on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 11:30 a.m. for a talk on scams and fraud prevention.

Attendees will learn about common scams targeting older adults, warning signs to watch for, and practical steps they can take to protect personal and financial information.

Aug. 27: Learn about the Senior Tax Work-Off Program

NORTHFIELD — Residents can join the Northfield Senior Center on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. to learn about the town’s Senior Tax Work-Off Program.

Northfield residents ages 60 and older who own and live in their home may be eligible. Participants can earn $15 per hour, up to $1,500 (approximately 100 hours), as a credit toward their property tax bill.

Income limits are $50,220 for a single person and $57,360 for a couple. Applications will be available beginning Sept. 1 and are due by Oct. 29. The program begins Jan. 4, 2027.

Required tax forms and a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) background check must be completed.

Cookout, music on tap for Bernardston Senior Center

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and dessert on Monday, Aug. 31, at 1:30 p.m., followed by music from the Falltown String Band at 3 p.m.
