Moose Lodge hosting pitch tournament
GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Moose Lodge at 20 School St. is hosting a pitch tournament on Friday, July 24, starting at 6:30 p.m. Players are asked to arrive by 6 p.m. to go over the rules and the bracket setup.
It is $15 per player to participate, with proceeds supporting the Moose Lodge’s utility bills.
Trash, recycling collection schedule changing
GREENFIELD — The Department of Public Works is updating Greenfield’s
municipal curbside trash and recycling collection schedule in an effort to enhance operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with state environmental regulations.
The old schedule involved trash and recycling being collected Monday through Thursday, while the new schedule will see trash and recycling pickup occur Tuesday through Friday. The change goes into effect on Aug. 1.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection mandates that on each operational day for the Transfer Station, the interior floor must be completely cleared, all waste loaded into trailers, and the floor thoroughly cleaned. Currently, this requires cleaning on both Mondays (due to curbside collections) and Fridays (for public access), resulting in duplication of cleaning cycles and an extra day of facility maintenance. By shifting the collection days from Monday through Thursday to Tuesday through Friday, the city is aligning curbside collection with public access on Fridays, a change that aims to streamline operations and eliminate redundant cleaning.
“By implementing this revised trash and recycling collection schedule, we are taking a meaningful step toward more efficient operations and better service for our residents,” Mayor Ginny Desorgher said in a statement. “I sincerely appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we work to improve our trash and recycling services.”
What this means for residents is that, if their street’s collection day is Monday, it will shift to Tuesday; if it is typically Tuesday, their street’s collection will shift to Wednesday; Wednesday collections will shift to Thursday; and streets with Thursday collections will shift to Fridays. There are, however, exceptions:
- Mead Street pickup will be on Fridays, with recycling collection on A weeks.
- Trash and recycling on the Mohawk Trail to the west of River Street will be collected on Fridays, with recycling collection on A weeks.
- For homes 538 and 549 on Shelburne Road, trash will be picked up on Fridays, and recycling will change to A weeks. This adjustment is necessary because of the recent culvert issue on Shelburne Road.
Residents are advised to place their trash and recycling at the curb by 7 a.m. on the new designated collection days.

The city’s recycling coordinator will also be staffing an information table at the Greenfield Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 27, and Friday, July 31, providing an opportunity for residents to ask questions about the revised trash/recycling schedule or to learn more about recycling.
