NORTHFIELD — Town Clerk Amanda Hall will soon have a new assistant following the appointment of Shelburne Falls resident Tara Miller.
Miller is slated to start on Monday, July 20, having been appointed by the Selectboard to the part-time job of assistant town clerk at a rate of $22.92 per hour.
“She really impressed us in the interview process in both rounds,” Hall said. “She did a great job. We liked her skills and experience and willingness to learn.”
Selectboard member Bernard “Bernie” Boudreau added that Miller’s resume and responses during the interview process were impressive.
“She was definitely the top candidate,” Boudreau said, “so I’m glad to be able to get her.”
The town had received more than 25 resumes, and the field of candidates was narrowed to four for interviews. In an email, Hall said that Miller has more than 20 years of administrative, customer service and financial recordkeeping experience, and has worked as a data entry administrator, accounts receivable clerk and bank teller.
Miller holds an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences from Greenfield Community College.
Selectboard Chair Barbara “Bee” Jacque said Miller seems like someone with “a keen eye for detail,” an important trait for town clerks considering they work with vital records, such as birth, death and marriage records.
Miller will replace former Assistant Town Clerk Dan Campbell, who had previously worked as town clerk and mentored Hall to take over as town clerk. He resigned from the position of assistant town clerk on June 4.
Campbell, who also serves on the Selectboard, told his fellow board members earlier this year that he planned to retire from some of his roles, but would continue to focus on his Selectboard duties. In retirement, he plans to golf, garden and travel.
When asked what he will miss most about the town clerk and assistant town clerk positions, Campbell replied, “The people coming in.”
“I know pretty much everybody in town,” Campbell said.
