For the last and final act of the Michael Cohen saga will it be that his colossally hypocritical reconciliation with Donald Trump will be rationalized as a life-saving necessity? Though not unexpected but incredibly disappointing is the news that Cohen and Trump seemed to have buried the hatchet.
After Cohen’s imprisonment he appeared frequently on talk shows acknowledging his criminal activity on behalf of Trump as well as the malevolent character of Trump. No criticism of Trump was ever spared by Cohen as he rejoiced in Trump’s failures, corruption and incompetence. Interestingly, there has been radio silence from Cohen during this second administration which could have been attributed to the news media losing interest in Cohen’s opinions and repetitiveness.
The reality is that there has been a reconciliation of sorts between these two miscreants and Cohen may not be the last critic of Trump to publicly criticize Trump’s “misadventures” and malevolence and then become a cheering hypocrite. But, perhaps this one is the most reprehensible of all.
If Trump had taken a more humane, less self-centered approach during this second administration perhaps Cohen could have made the argument that even this man should be granted a second chance. But, in light of the more horrendous and felonious actions of Trump there will not be a third chance for Michael Cohen.
