‘School Committee Reads’ series gets underway in Greenfield

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield School Committee kicked off its “School Committee Reads” series on Saturday.

Throughout July and August, School Committee members will be at the Greenfield Public Library Children’s Room at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays to read picture books aloud. During last week’s School Committee meeting, Chair Stacey Sexton said the program is a new initiative this year, aimed at getting the committee to engage with the public more while also encouraging children to read more.

“We’re really excited to actually get some more face-to-face time with kids during the summer,” Sexton said. “This is another way that we want to encourage families and students to get into the library, hopefully inspire them to take a couple of books home, and is another sort of way to partner also with the library’s existing Summer Reading Program.”
