Been thinking a lot about judgment and it’s relationship to language. Judgment is a response to meaning as it becomes value or value as it forms meaning. Language is interesting because it goes both ways in the musicality of language, both tone and pitch, show value creating meaning and at the same time the words we use show meaning creating value. We can choose to detach from this or we can form a judgement on it.
If we detach we may avoid suffering but we also devoid ourselves of beauty, love, and purpose. It is often said that only God can judge but are we not made in God’s image? What can we accomplish without judgment. Does it promise peace or blandness to detach? The only progressive approach is to embrace judgment and the accompanying suffering. To have discourse within and throughout communities. We must learn to not avoid judging but to tolerate the cacophony of ideas as it turns into a symphony of intellectualism and ideals.
By choosing contrition in the face of judgment we deny ourselves the opportunity to advance a more developed belief system that has come about both through shifting and anchoring in our stances. Critical thinking cannot exist without judgment. The universe, whether you believe in a creator or not, was created with intention. It is mathematical. At the core of existence is value. And value must create meaning or conscience would be a futile and wasteful gift. We must create judgment not to embrace hubris but to ensure order and civility. To detach only creates ignorance and a failing understanding of oneself and ones world. You are fighting the universe.
To surrender and to accept is not to embrace sin but to find yourself immersed in the greatest of mystery. And that is what creates wonder. And wonder is the reason we seek. And seeking only produces an outcome when we seek with judgment.
