While weeding my garden, a ruckus caught my attention. I glanced up to see a Greenfield DPW worker in action and witnessed a petite young woman sigh, climb down from the recycling truck, and patiently pick up the contents that had spilled from one of the new blue bins. When I offered to help, she politely replied, “That’s OK, I got it.”

After swiftly cleaning up the mess, she noted, “People need to learn to space the bins a minimum of three feet apart. Otherwise the mechanical arms knock over a bin that’s too close.”

Without a cross word, she finished the task and climbed into her truck. People like that strong, capable young woman keep our society going. Where would we be without dedicated workers who clean up after the rest of us with dignity and grace?
