ERVING — A minor fire on the roof of the Erving Paper Mill was quickly extinguished on Friday afternoon, according to Fire Chief Philip Wonkka.

The fire on the roof is believed to have originated as an extension from one of the paper machines inside the building, Wonkka said. According to the chief, the fire resulted in some minor damage to the roof. No injuries were reported.

Wonkka said the fire was reported at 12:18 p.m. and crews were on scene for about an hour. Assisting the Erving Fire Department was Northfield EMS and the Turners Falls Fire Department.

Originally, the Greenfield Fire Department was requested as well, but after arriving on scene and seeing how minor the fire was, Wonkka canceled mutual aid.
