George A. Sargent

Orange , MA – George Arthur Sargent, 70, of 519 E. River Street, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, May 14, 2026 following a period of declining health. He was born on January 17, 1956 to Edwin E. Sargent, Sr., and the former Janice Mary Either.

George received his education in Montague Public Schools, and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1974. George graduated from UMASS Amherst in 1980, with a BA in Physical Education. Upon graduation, he was employed in the Maryland and Philadelphia, PA making full use of his degree in PE. Later, George furthered his education by attending Gwynedd-Mercy College in Gwyneed Valley, PA, attaining a 3 Year Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

He then accepted a position in a large hospital in Philadelphia as a Respiratory Therapist for several years. At that time, he partnered in an upstart Respiratory Therapist Business, prior to relocating to Southern New Hampshire where he accepted a position with Heywood Hospital in Gardner for a period 5 years. He then relocated to the White Mountains of N.H., one of his favorite areas and accepted a position at the Weeks Medical Center, in Lancaster and Androscoggin Hospital in Berlin for a period of 10-15 years. George returned to Massachusetts, when he accepted a position at Athol Hospital, Athol, MA for a period of 5 years prior to his retirement.

He served his community, with the upmost care and kindness as possible and was respected and valued by his colleagues and co-workers. He loved running and all aspects of fitness. He enjoyed hiking the White Mountains, climbing Mt. Washington 15 consecutive years with his siblings and families. George visited Spain, on one occasion to visit a friend who he worked with at Athol Hospital. It was his intention to return for a second visit, which was derailed by his illness.

George had an abiding love for his family and for his Lord and Savior. He will be remembered for his sincere kindness, gentle nature and honest approach to life. He made all that he encountered, comfortable and listen to. His family wishes to express their appreciation, for the extraordinary and thoughtful care that he received from Hospice, Catholic Charities and Visiting Nurses.

George is lovingly remembered with great affection by his siblings: Edwin Sargent, Jr., (Robin), Jo-Ann Demers (Rusty), Diane Sargent, Gary Sargent (Belinda), Ron Sargent (Lisa), and Tony Sargent. Additionally, he leaves several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as many friends and colleagues.

George was a member of the Mission of Grace Church in Westborough, MA. Memorial Services in celebration of George’s life and many gifts, will be observed on Monday, June 8th, 2026 at 11:00AM, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 10 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA, with Rev. David Bodanza, Pastor, of the Mission of Grace Church to officiate. Rites of committal and inurnment, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Turners Falls, MA

Visiting hours have been omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mission of Grace Church, 85 East Main Street, Westborough, MA 01581 or to one’s local Hospice, VNA or Catholic Charities organization in George’s memory.
