Athol Savings Bank donates to 1794 Meetinghouse

NEW SALEM — Athol Savings Bank, a division of Cornerstone Bank, has donated $1,200 to 1794 Meetinghouse Inc. to support its upcoming summer concert series.

The funding will support a lineup of performances throughout the summer season, continuing the 1794 Meetinghouse’s mission to offer accessible, high-quality arts programming while preserving a historic community landmark.

“We believe strong communities are built through shared experiences and local connections,” Daniel Zona, president of Cornerstone Bank and former president and CEO of Athol Savings Bank, said in a statement. “We are proud to support programming that enriches the cultural life of our region.”

The announcement states the donation reflects the bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting local nonprofits and community initiatives.

Environmental educator coming to New Salem Public Library

NEW SALEM — The New Salem Public Library is hosting Chrissy Larson, senior environmental educator at the Hitchcock Center for the Environment, for a presentation on Tuesday, June 2.

“When a Smoky Haze Fills Your Summer Days: Understanding and Responding to the Health Impacts of Wildfire Smoke & Pollution” is slated for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Larson will address issues such as wildfire smoke, winter inversion layers and extreme heat, with tips for finding accurate data, how to respond and long-term solutions. Guests will also learn about the air-quality monitoring system installed at the library last year.

New Salem Public Library sets up workshop to organize digital life

NEW SALEM — Is your computer or phone overflowing with photos, downloads and documents in no particular order? If so, the New Salem Public Library has an upcoming workshop for you.

“Organizing Your Digital Life,” presented by Stephanie Stoudenmire of CodeForce.us, is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

Participants will learn simple, practical systems for creating folders, naming files consistently, saving to USB drives or cloud storage, and reducing digital clutter.
