Beatrice Zach

Northfield, MA – Beatrice “Betty” I. Zach, a beloved sister and aunt, and cherished presence in her community, passed away peacefully In February 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and quiet joy.

Betty grew up in the farms area of Northfield, where she built the foundation of a life rooted in family, resilience, and care for others. She was educated in the Northfield School systems, graduating from Pioneer Valley Regional School. After high school, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the federal government. Though her path took her away for a time, her deep sense of family responsibility called her back home to Northfield the following year. Upon her return, Betty became employed for the Commonwealth, working at the Massachusetts Highway Department. After many decades of service, she proudly retired. Her commitment and steady presence reflected a life lived with purpose and integrity.

Betty found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved gardening and yardwork, taking great pride in her fresh-cut flowers. During the summer months, she could be found perched roadside, selling her blooms to the locals and passersby. She was avid reader and loved a good Hallmark movie. Betty had a playful and loving spirit, especially when it came to her cats. While today’s generation might affectionately call her a “#cat mom,” she proudly proclaimed herself a “crazy cat lady.” She held a special place in her heart for her beloved cat niece, Chloe (who had already crossed the rainbow bridge). Betty looked forward to the day where she would once again be reunited with Chloe, having her sit on her lap for endless cuddles and pets.

Betty’s greatest joy was her family. Throughout the years, she could be found in the stands, along the sidelines, or in the bleachers, attending school sporting events, concerts, performances or ceremonies. She championed the accomplishments of others (especially her nieces and nephews), always there to lend a hand, or give words of support and encouragement.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, Dana and Doris Clough; her siblings, Rachel Clough, Raymond Clough, Wilfred “Bud” (Freda) Clough Sr., Robert “Bobby” Clough, Shirley (Earl) Allis, Ruth (Arthur) Johnson, and Dana “Butch” (Loretta) Clough Jr. She is survived by her sister, Janice (Jerry) LaPointe of Northfield, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends-all who will miss her dearly.

Lastly, Betty was a woman of faith. She loved the lord and knew that her final resting place would be with the heavenly father.

Betty’s memory will forever live on, and she will be forever missed.
