The MIAA released brackets for the statewide baseball and softball tournaments on Wednesday morning. Play begins on Thursday in both tournaments. Times, dates and site information will be added as the brackets are finalized.
Fresh off a Western Mass. Class C championship, the Greenfield baseball team drew the fifth seed in the Division 5 bracket. The Green Wave will host the winner of No. 28 Bartlett and No. 37 Lee on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Vets Field.
Defending state champion Pioneer Valley Regional drew a 16-seed and gets a home game against 17-seed Palmer in the Division 5 baseball bracket. The Panthers play on Monday at 5 p.m. in Northfield.
Athol is the 29th seed and will host No. 36 Norfolk County Agricultural in the preliminary round. Athol plays on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Elsewhere in Division 5, Franklin Tech is the 15th seed and will host No. 18 Monson in the Round of 32 while No. 23 Turners Falls will travel to play No. 10 West Boylston. The Eagles play on Sunday at 3 p.m. English High is top seed in the Division 5 baseball bracket.
The Frontier Regional baseball team drew a 14-seed in the Division 4 bracket and will host a game in the Round of 32 against the winner of No. 19 Blue Hills River Valley Technical and No. 46 Smith Vocational. Hamilton-Wenham is the top-overall seed in Division 4.
In the Division 4 softball bracket, Frontier Regional is the fourth seed. The Redhawks are set to host the winner of No. 29 Mount Greylock and No. 36 Minuteman Regional in the Round of 32. Advanced Math & Science is the top seed in the bracket. Hampshire Regional is the second seed.
In Division 5, the Class C champion Franklin Tech softball team gets a home game. The 12th seeded Eagles are set to play No. 21 Rising Tide Charter in the Round of 32. The Eagles play on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Valley Wheel league champion Pioneer Valley Regional squad just missed a home game, drawing the 17-seed. The Panthers will travel to No. 16 Douglas in the Round of 32 on Monday at 4 p.m.
The defending Division 5 state champion Turners Falls is the 11th seed and is set to host No. 22 Holbrook in the Round of 32 on Sunday at 3 p.m. A local matchup to watch in Division 5 is No. 14 Hopkins Academy hosting No. 19 Mohawk Trail Regional. That game is Sunday in Hadley at 3 p.m.. Greenfield is 15th in Division and gets a home game against No. 18 David Prouty on Friday at 6 p.m.
No. 34 Mahar Regional will play in the preliminary round against No. 31 Lee. Undefeated and Western Mass. Class D champion Hoosac Valley is the top seed in Division 5. Mahar visits Lee on Thursday at 4:15.
In volleyball, No. 36 Athol heads to No. 29 Millis in the Division 2 bracket. In the tennis brackets, the Turners Falls boys tennis team got eliminated on Tuesday in Division 3. The Greenfield girls team advanced to the Round of 32 against No. 2 Manchester Essex Regional.
The Frontier Regional boys and girls tennis teams are going to Cape Cod. The Frontier girls drew the 20-seed and will travel to No. 13 Sturgis Charter School East on Thursday, while the No. 21 boys team plays No. 12 Sturgis Charter West also on Thursday.
Both matches are at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
