Eight-year-old Bernardston native Cooper Deane made the most of his invitation to the Perfect Game (PG) 2026 U-10 New England All-Star Game on May 19 in Northborough. Deane finished the night 3-for-3 and earned top performer recognition.

Batting fourth, Deane generated a line-drive single to left field leading in the second inning. After stealing second, Deane scored a run after a teammate drove him home.

He later added another single and a triple while scoring twice. Deane was the only Western Massachusetts native invited to the All-Star experience at the New England Baseball Complex.

Locally, Deane plays under Greenfield Minor League Baseball’s Cal Ripken umbrella, where he and his 2025 U-8 State Champion teammates will try for their second state title when GMLB hosts the U-9 State Championship at Lunt Field later this summer.

Ultimate Frisbee

The Four Rivers girls ultimate team continued its streak of dominance at the Massachusetts State Championship over the weekend at the Oxbow in Northampton. The Otters placed first with a 5-1 record, capturing the state championship. Four Rivers defeated Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, 15-5, in the finals on Sunday.

Sylvia Guillaume, Juna Gradick and Olivia Long powered the Four Rivers offense throughout the weekend, with strong all-around performances also coming from Hazel Bird Richards, Penelope Peters and Maayan Coleman.

The Four Rivers boys team finished third overall. The Otters beat Arlington 15-9 in the third-place game. Kolin Broderick, Russell Herbert and Cooper Whitney led the offensive effort for Four Rivers, while Wes Acton and Miles Retzlaff also turned in strong performances.

Greenfield Minor League Baseball

Gruber & Tripp edged Ruggeri Real Estate, 14-13, in Greenfield Minor League Baseball action on May 23. Tristan Earl knocked in the game-winning run for the Lawyers. Aiden Martin added an effective inning on the mound for Gruber & Tripp.

For Ruggeri, Dexter Fiori had a solid day at the plate, while Morgan Wyngowski had a great outing on the mound.

New Fortune 9, Gilmore & Farrell 4 — Sean Winslow, Collin Winslow, and Miles Williams all had two hits in New Fortune’s victory on May 22. Kent Warner and Blake Miner both doubled for Gilmore & Farrell, with Tommy Shivone adding a single.

Ruggeri Real Estate 16, Ginger Cat Sealcoating 9 — Ruggeri Real Estate topped Ginger Cat Sealcoating in AA action on May 21st. Morgan Wyngowski helped lead the offense with impressive hitting, while Liam Marguet and Leo O’Neill both turned in solid outings on the mound. Easton Turner and Sully Boutelle provided bright spots for Ginger Cat Sealcoating, each collecting hits and contributing on defense.

Pioneer Valley Tire 11, Liberty Tax 10 — Cody Castine and Parker Smith-LeClair each had two hits and double in the win for Pioneer Valley Tire in AAA action on May 21. Zach Bensen added two singles while Connor Bergeron flashed the leather at third base.

Blake White, Charlie Tyler, Aiden Call and JJ Grader each had a hit for the Accountants.

Greenfield Girls Softball League

Perspective Learning 6, Franklin First Credit Union 4 — Quinn Russell had four hits for the Learners in the win on May 22. Natalie Belville added three more hits. For the Creditors, Clare Cooley pounded the strike zone in her first pitching performance. Maya Towne added three hits.

Descavich 13, Garden Cinema 8 — The Plumbers outlasted the Moviegoers on May 22 behind hits from Rachel Laffey, Ava Martin, Claira Pompilli and Lilliana Hubert in Ponytail play. Penelope Gioules had a double for Garden Cinema.

Alliance Partners 8, Sandri 7 — Caroline Barrett had two hits with a double and three RBI in Alliance Partners’ junior division win on May 22. Zoelle Luippold added two hits with two runs scored. Skye Warner went 3-for-3 for Sandri, while Ryder Wallner added two hits.

Pristine Orientals 4, Perspective Learning 0 — Ivy Liimatainen went 4-for-4 in the win for Pristine Orientals on May 21. Lilly Sadowski went 2-for-3 with two RBi, while Kayla Renaud added a hit with an RBI. Bryleigh Carter went 3-for-3 for the Learners, while Theresa Barton added a shutout inning in the circle.

Garden Cinema 18, Camelot Carpet Cleaners 8 — Penelope Gioules and Makenna Ward each singled in the win for the Moviegoers on May 21. Aalyiah Dowdy and Clara VanDoren each had a hit for the Cleaners.

Freedom Credit Union 5, Franklin First Credit Union 4 — Freedom topped Franklin on May 21. For Freedom Credit Union, Ainsley Page had one hit, and Brady Bernard had three hits. For Franklin First, Olivia Balasavich made an impressive out as catcher on a foul ball while Addie Parker added a hit.

Turners Falls 6, St. Mary’s 5 — The Thunder pulled out a win against the Saints at Jachym Field in Westfield on May 21. Porter Dubow had three hits and two RBI for the Thunder. Julian Kaiser got the win on the mound, giving up one earned run with three strikeouts.

Softball

Turners Falls 16, Pioneer 7 — Madisyn Dietz went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in the win for the Thunder over the Panthers at Mullins Field on May 22. Janelle Massey and Abby Moffatt knocked in an additional three runs for Turners Falls. Maggie Tsipenyuk had a hit and two RBI for the Panthers.

Hole in One

Joe Viadero nailed an ace on 15th hole on May 22. Viadero’s shot came from 99 yards away using a gap wedge. Viadero now has four aces for his career. Jimmy Smal, Ronnie Spencer and Pete Wood witnessed the shot.
