Joyce was born in Turners Falls on August 15, 1937, daughter of the late Stanley and Jane (Mimi) Sopollec. She graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1955.

Joyce married Francis E. Deskavich on January 28, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church in Turners Falls. They made their home in South Deerfield. She worked for GTD and Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company retiring in 1994.

Joyce was pre-deceased by her husband Francis and two sons, Infant Deskavich and Gary; three sisters, Loretta Kirk, Betty Hanley and Shirley Matusz; two brothers, Stanley Sopollec Jr. and Albert and daughter-in-law Cathy (Rewa) Deskavich.

Survivors include sons Glenn and Thomas (Leslie Wickline and family); daughter in-laws Rose and Laurie Deskavich; grandchildren John, Taylor, Nathan and Amanda Deskavich; grand dogs Lilly Rose and Ruby and cat Simba. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Joyce will always have a special place in our hearts. She would not want us to mourn her loss but instead remember her when scratching lottery tickets, eating a piece of candy, having a slice of pie, listening to polka or country music, watching Wheel of Fortune or Family Feud and her favorite Boston Sports Teams, enjoying a cup of tea before bed and looking up at the moon, and most of all, watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities.

At Joyce’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held at the Brookside Cemetery in South Deerfield on Saturday July 11, 2026, at noon followed by a luncheon at the South Deerfield Polish Club.

Memorial contributions can be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters, PO Box 100, Greenfield, MA 01302.
