A recent letter writer asserted falsely that “all 13 original states have no Republicans… in the U.S. Congress.” This is an absurd statement. The writer should actually look up what those 13 states are, and then look at their congressional delegations. Including both Senators and House Representatives, while Democrats do indeed outnumber Republicans in those states, with 98 Democrats, there are currently 56 Republicans representing those states.

The rest of the letter has opinions, some based on fact and some based on absurdities. Opinions are one thing; absolutely provable, glaringly incorrect statements — like saying the Earth is flat, or that there are 24, instead of 50 states — are another. If I were a newspaper editor, I would not publish letters that contain such uninformed, ridiculous, incorrect statements. Writers should at least be expected to get their facts straight.
