GREENFIELD — The third-seeded Greenfield softball team cruised past No. 6 SICS, 14-0 (five innings), in the Western Mass. Class C quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Vets Field.

The Green Wave now face a trip to the Berkshires to play second-seeded Lenox on Thursday at 4 p.m. Olivia Lemay picked an excellent time to have one of her best games of the season in the circle for Green Wave.

In five innings of work Lemay gave up two hits with 15 strikeouts. The Bulldogs simply could not catch up to Lemay’s speed coming to home plate.

“We really want to win,” Lemay said. “Everyone had their head in the game. Everyone was focused and locked in. It was the most focused our team has ever been.”

Offense spread out for Greenfield up and and down the lineup.

“It was nice, because once one person started hitting everyone just kept going,” Lemay said. “It felt good as a pitcher because it felt like my team was there for me and could help me out.”

Lemay added a triple with three RBI at the plate. Kayden Viencek had a hit with two RBI. Grace Laurie added to the offensive onslaught with two hits and three RBI.

“We’ve been trying to put the focus everyone contributing,” Greenfield coach Erich Leaper said. “We’ve had these games where we do really well. It has been top to bottom. As we progress we know we are going to face challenging opponents. We have to feel good about all parts of the lineup.”

During the season, Lemay dealt with some back issues but seems to be rounding into form at the right time for the Green Wave.

“Olivia was great,” Leaper said. “I’ve had my concerns…If we can can get Olivia to throw that well coming off the injury it would be great. The fielders were bored. Always great for us.”

Sophia Rotkeiwicz, Laurie and Sarah McCloud each had RBI hits in the first inning for Greenfield. Viencek hit an RBI single in the second inning to give the Green Wave a 5-0 lead. Ella Rotkeiwicz and Madison Lemay had RBI in the bottom of the fourth.
