The little charter school from Greenfield punched its ticket to a national stage over the weekend. The Four Rivers boys and girls ultimate frisbee teams secured entry into the 2026 High School National Invite in Salem, Oregon with their performances at the Pioneer Valley Invitational at the Oxbow in Northampton.
It is the first time in program history that both teams made it to the national tournament. The national tournament begins on June 12. Four Rivers has a student body of around 150 students. The Otters regularly compete against much bigger schools and nationals will not be different.
The Otters girls squad finished in first place. Four Rivers went 2-1 in pool play before rampaging through the playoff bracket for their victory. In the quarterfinals, the Otters defeated Lexington 7-5. In the semifinals, Four Rivers edged Cambridge Rindge & Latin School before a decisive win over Northampton in the finals, 10-6.
The boys team went 3-0 in pool play, making it all the way to the finals of the ensuing playoff bracket. The Otters ran into the eighth-ranked team in the country in Columbia High School (Pa.). Four Rivers lost to Columbia, 10-7, in the championship game. The second-place finish sent the Otters to the national tournament.
Next for the Otters is the Mass. State Tournament on Memorial Day weekend at The Oxbow in Northampton. With two teams attending nationals, the school needs assistance with travel expenses to Oregon. Donate here, https://gofund.me/3f499ef07 .
