MONTAGUE — An eight-run second inning by visiting Mount Greylock doomed the Turners Falls softball team on Friday afternoon. The Thunder ended up losing to the Mounties, 11-3, at Mullins Field in an independent contest.
It was the fifth straight loss for the Thunder (6-11). Madisyn Dietz got the start in the circle but ran into some control issues in the second inning. Autumn Thornton pitched in relief and steadied the Thunder, but the offense could not make up the difference.
Thornton gave up seven hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. Ameliya Galbraith had an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth for Turners Falls. Addison Talbot came home to score on Galbraith’s RBI hit.
Dietz went 2-for-4 at the plate, with Maddie Haight adding a hit in the fifth inning for the Thunder.
Pioneer 13, Ware, 1 (six innings) — Cobi Tyminski flirted with a no-hitter in the Panthers’ road win over the Indians in an independent match up. Tyminski struck out eight hitters and didn’t give up a hit until the fifth inning. The Panthers (9-7) played mistake free on defense.
Tyminski added two hits with two RBI at the plate. Lalah Goulston added a couple hits and drove in a run. Hannah Sheperd and Evy Lewis each added a hit for Pioneer.
Girls tennis
St. Mary’s 5, Mohawk 0 — The Saints swept the Warriors at Stanley Park in a Tri-County North matchup. Mohawk’s Hazel Foucault gave Kayla Thresher a good match at No. 1 singles. Thresher ended up with the 6-3, 7-5 victory.

PVCA 3, Frontier 0 — Nate Rivera had 15 kills and 16 digs in a home loss for the Redhawks. Set scores were 25-21, 25-18 and 25-21 at Goodnow Gymnasium. Ethan Rivera led the offense with 19 assists. Chanju Banda added six kills for Frontier (1-17).

Turners Falls 71, Greenfield 64 — The Thunder got a narrow win over the Green Wave at home in Intercounty play. Tristan Bliss won the shot put (23-10) and the discus (81-1) for Turners Falls (4-2). Jakhia Williams placed first in the 100-meter (13.4). Nina St. Clair won the long jump (14-5.25) and the triple jump (29-9.75) for the Green Wave. Kyra Tamsin added victories in the 100-hurdles (17.8) and the 400-hurdles (1:11) for Greenfield.
