A letter-writer wonders why American college students protest Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s war crimes in Gaza but not those of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hamas, or Iran and calls the singling out of Israel’s crimes “discriminatory,” which is myopic to say the least.
The reason American students and other fair-minded Americans protest against the war crimes committed in Gaza (which have been credibly called “genocide”) is that the United States is complicit in them; we fund Israel’s war machine and manufacture its weapons. We do not fund Putin’s war in Ukraine, Iran’s many crimes, or those of Hamas. But you know who was funding Hamas before the Oct. 7 attacks? Bibi Netanyahu. Best to scrutinize the facts before asserting discrimination.
