HAWLEY — Voters in Hawley’s town election weren’t presented with any contested races when they arrived to the polls on Monday.

Three of the six positions that needed to be filled had ballot candidates, while the other three had no candidate listed but declared write-in candidates. Hawley has 251 registered voters and 34 people, or 13.5%, made their way to the ballot box on Monday.

Also on the ballot was a proposal to change the town clerk’s position from elected to appointed. Elizabeth “Ellie” Van Iderstine has served as Hawley’s temporary town clerk since 2024, although she does not live in town. The ballot question passed overwhelmingly, with 31 voters approving the change from elected to appointed. Three voted against it.

This vote affirms the unanimous decision from a March Special Town Meeting, and Van Iderstine will continue to serve in the role, now as an appointed official.

Other results include:

  • Selectboard/Zoning Board of Appeals/Board of Health: Will Cosby for a three-year term, 25 votes.
  • Hawlemont Regional School District School Committee: Ken Bertsch for a three-year term, 33 votes.
  • Mohawk Trail Regional School District School Committee: Robert Sears for a three-year term, 34 votes.
  • Board of Assessors: write-in candidate Wayne Lemoine for a three-year term, 20 votes.
  • Auditor: write-in candidate Jill Behringer for a one-year term, 17 votes.
  • Moderator: write-in candidate Julie Carantit for a one-year term, 16 votes.
