GREENFIELD — The Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee will host a community engagement event on Tuesday, May 19, offering residents an opportunity to learn about master plan updates and the work of the committee’s Open Space Task Force.

The event will open with a presentation by Planning Director Ella Wise and George Touloumtzis, who serves on the Planning Board and the Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee, focusing on updates to two chapters of the master plan and progress the city has made since the master plan was developed more than 10 years ago.

Residents will also have a chance to provide input on the work of the Open Space Task Force, which was established two years ago as a subcommittee of the Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee, with volunteer representatives from the SGIC, the Conservation Commission, the Recreation Commission and other city residents. After an initial period of internal groundwork, the task force is ready to present its work to the broader community.

“We’ve been doing important work behind the scenes, and now we want to hear from the community,” Jonah Keane, a member of the Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee and chair of the Open Space Task Force, said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for residents to engage in the process.”

The presentation will be followed by interactive stations where attendees can review materials, learn how to get involved and provide feedback on three priority areas:

  • Conservation mapping — The task force has been developing maps to identify and prioritize land in Greenfield for conservation, helping guide future decisions about which areas matter most to protect.
  • Nature trail stewardship — The task force has been working with the Recreation Commission and Conservation Commission to support the maintenance and improvement of Greenfield’s network of nature trails.
  • Pollinator plan implementation — The task force is helping advance Greenfield’s pollinator plan, which aims to support habitat for bees, butterflies and other pollinators across the city.

Community feedback gathered at the event will directly inform the task force’s priorities and recommendations going forward.

The free event will be held at the John Zon Community Center. Refreshments, including pizza, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation will start at 6 p.m.
