BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Kiwanis Club’s chicken pot pie dinner will return for its fourth and final meal of the year on Saturday, April 25 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the United Church of Bernardston.
Dinners are $15 for adults and $5 for children. The meals include chicken pot pie, butternut squash, cranberry sauce and dinner rolls, along with carrot cake for dessert. Frozen chicken pot pies also will be available to purchase.
Proceeds from the dinner and raffle will go towards the United Arc, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families “as they seek opportunities to obtain the universal goals of community inclusion, ownership of choice, and maximizing independence,” the website reads.
“All [attendees] have to do to help out is come out and eat,” Kiwanis Club member Dan Devine said.
According to Devine, the dinner will honor Lillian Deane, who died in 2017 after many years serving on the Arc’s board of directors. She and her husband Russ Deane, a longtime member of the club, raised a daughter “Miss Nanci,” who benefitted from the nonprofit’s many services. As the couple’s daughter got older, the Deanes created transitional homes for her and others.
For Lillian, “The biggest thing was inclusion in society and everyday happiness,” Devine said.
