As a kid growing up in the late 60s, I was a Boy Scout, and eventually made it to the Eagle Scout rank. Besides learning camping, hiking, cooking, and tracking skills, we were also taught civics. My leaders were all World War II and Korean War vets who knew firsthand about sacrifice and honor and giving back to the community. As a veteran myself, I cannot imagine what many of those men had to experience.

I can still recite the 12 points of the Scout Law 50-plus years later. It is a framework I try to follow to this day. I would like readers to put the current administration’s leader, cabinet, department heads, senators and representatives up against those 12 points and see how they score.

Personally, my tally comes up with two out of 12, a massive failing grade. The 12 points are: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

Loyal (misguided) and Obedient is all I can honestly regard as plausible. A shame.
