Judy Lynn (Nelson) Shaw

Norfolk, VA – Judy Lynn (Nelson) Shaw, born June 17, 1959, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by compassion, kindness, and a deep commitment to caring for others.

Judy grew up in Northfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Pioneer Regional High School in 1977. She dedicated many years of her life working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Vernon Green Nursing Facility, where she touched countless lives with her gentle care and unwavering dedication. Caring for others was not just her profession, but her calling-one she carried with her throughout her entire life.

In 2000, Judy married the love of her life, William H. Shaw, and moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. Judy found joy in the simple beauties of life-animals, flowers, and nature-and she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

She leaves behind her beloved husband, William H. Shaw; her children, John and Amy Welshman, all of Norfolk, Virginia; and her siblings: her twin sister Jody Hogan (Jim) of Virginia Beach, Jay Nelson (Teresa) of Northfield, Joel Nelson (Allyson) of Northfield, Janice Garvin (Andy) of Greenfield, Joy Grover of Bernardston, and Joan Farrow of Golden, Colorado. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Judy was predeceased by her parents, John and Janice Nelson; her brother, Jere Nelson; and three nephews.

Judy will be remembered for her warm heart, her selflessness, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA or to a favorite animal welfare organization in her memory.

A Celebration of Judy’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 24, at Great Neck Baptist Church, 1020 General Jackson Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
